Doris Laratta

Doris is a watercolour artist based in Calgary.

Her work is heavily inspired by the breathtaking beauty of nature, particularly the serene landscapes of Alberta. She loves capturing the graceful lines of trees, the majestic peaks of mountains, and the vibrant energy of animals in her paintings.

Watercolour allows her to express the fluidity and ever-changing grace of the natural world. Through her art, she tries to bring a sense of peace and tranquility to the viewer, inviting them to connect with the serenity and wonder of the great outdoors. Doris took her first class over 30 years ago, and painted off and on while raising a family and working full time as a teacher. She continued to take classes through Karin Richter. When she could no longer teach due to the progression of her Multiple Sclerosis, she was able to dedicate more time learning at the Parkdale Nifty Fifties with other instructors.

Different instructors offered Doris valuable new knowledge as she worked to improve her artwork. In addition to Parkdale, Doris has shown her work with the Southern Alberta Art Alliance (Illumina), the Calgary Retired Teachers Association, the Calgary Stampede Mini Masters Gallery and now the Calgary Artists' Society.
