Shirley MacGregor

Shirley was born in Saskatchewan
and moved to Calgary in 1948.

She became interested in painting late in life
and was juried into CAS in 1999.

Her choice of medium began with oils
but soon found the ease of acrylics,
with their fast drying properties and vivid colors,
more appealing to her style of painting.

When starting a painting
she has no clear idea as to how it will end,
for “it just evolves on it's own”.
Her style is distinctive in that she pays
little attention to detail, other than composition,
but her fascination with organic shapes
in nature is very evident.

Her love of colour is an integral component
in giving her paintings a perception of simple joy.
